K.J. Diliip
K.J. Diliip has had the good fortune of being born into a musical family. His initial training was under his father, Shri K.J. Shyamasharma, and his grandfather, Shri K.J. Krishna Bhat, an accomplished vocalist and violinist. He further underwent advanced training under violin maestro Padmabhushan Sangeetha Kalanidhi Vidwan M.S. Gopalakrishnan.
Diliip performs violin solo concerts across India and internationally. He also presents vocal-violin duet concerts with his wife, Vid. Ila Sangeetha Diliip, bringing together the richness of Carnatic vocal and violin traditions in a distinctive musical collaboration.
Performances
Diliip has performed alongside several senior and eminent artists in the field of Carnatic music. His performances have taken him across India and to countries including Canada, the UAE, the USA, France, Switzerland, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Australia. He performed in Paris as part of The European Night of Museums at the Musée Guimet.
He has conducted lecture-demonstrations (LEC-DEMs) at prestigious institutions and venues, including Berklee College of Music, Boston, the Musée Guimet, Paris, and various venues in Switzerland.
Diliip is also an established collaborator in the film music industry, having worked with several music directors. One of his recent instrumental hits from the film Monsoon Raaga has crossed three million views.
At the age of 18, Diliip was recognised as an exceptional talent by the Pudhupoonal programme on Doordarshan Podhigai, following which he was featured in an interview and a solo concert broadcast on the channel.
Lakkshya
Diliip is the founder of Lakkshya, a contemporary music band that is steadily establishing its presence across India and Europe. Blending diverse musical influences and exploring new sonic possibilities, the band brings together a range of musical traditions to create a distinctive contemporary sound.
Lakkshya released its debut album, Ecstasy, featuring renowned musicians B.C. Manjunath, Mohini Dey and Achal Murthy, among other exceptional artists. The album showcased the band’s collaborative approach to music, combining diverse artistic sensibilities and creating an engaging musical experience.
The band is set to release its second album in 2026, featuring five acclaimed international artists from the contemporary and jazz music scene. This upcoming release marks another significant step in Lakkshya’s continuing musical journey, further expanding its creative horizons through international collaborations.
Lakkshya has performed at jazz festivals, jazz clubs and international music festivals across the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Poland, Luxembourg, Germany and other destinations. One of the band’s works was also featured in a documentary by A.R. Rahman.
Fresh from a European tour with Lakkshya, Diliip continues to explore new musical expressions, drawing inspiration from his experiences and collaborations with musicians across diverse musical landscapes.
